Pursuant to a notice posted in accordance with Senate Rule 11.18, a public hearing of the Senate Committee on Health & Human Services was held on Wednesday, May 12, 2010, in the Senate Chamber.

The chair called the meeting to order at 9:00 a.m.  There being a quorum present, the following business was transacted: 

 

Senator Nelson made opening remarks regarding interim charges 6 and 10.

 

Senator Nelson called Chris Traylor to provide an overview of DADS process for investigating allegations of abuse and neglect in veterans' nursing homes (see attached witness list).

 

Senator Nelson called panel one to provide invited testimony on increasing seniors' access to community services (see attached witness list).

 

At 10:02 a.m. Senator Nelson moved that the committee stand recessed until 10:15 a.m.; without objection, it was so ordered. 

 

Senator Nelson called panel two to provide invited testimony on DADS guardianship program (see attached witness list).

 

Witnesses testifying and registering on the bill are shown on the attached list. 

The chair moved that the public testimony be closed; without objection, it was so ordered.

 

Senator Nelson made opening remarks regarding interim charge 10.

 

Senator Nelson called panel one to provide invited testimony on current practices of the Texas Medical Board relating to the disclosure of complaints (see attached witness list).

 

At 1:33 p.m. Senator Deuell assumed the chair. 

 

Witnesses testifying and registering on the bill are shown on the attached list. 

 

The chair moved that the public testimony be closed; without objection, it was so ordered.

 

There being no further business, at 2:59 p.m. Senator Deuell moved that the Committee stand recessed subject to the call of the chair.  Without objection, it was so ordered.
