Pursuant to a notice posted in accordance with Senate Rule 11.18, a public hearing of the Senate Committee on Redistricting, Select was held on Saturday, November 20, 2010, in Houston, Texas.

The meeting was called to order at 10:02 a.m.

 

The Senate Select Committee on Redistricting held a joint hearing with subcommittees of the House Committee on Redistricting and the House Committee on Judiciary and Civil Jurisprudence.  Representative Alvarado served as chair of the subcommittee of the House Committee on Redistricting, and Representative Woolley served as chair of the subcommittee of the House Committee on Judiciary and Civil Jurisprudence.  The clerk called roll for the subcommittees.  A quorum was present. 

 

Representative Todd Hunter, Chairman of the House Committee on Judiciary and Civil Jurisprudence, made opening remarks.  Members of the subcommittees made brief remarks.

 

Senator Seliger called the Senate Select Committee on Redistricting to order.  The clerk called roll.  There was a quorum present.

 

Senator Seliger made opening remarks.  Senator Seliger recognized Grover Campbell, Vice Chancellor of the University of Houston System.

 

Senate committee members made brief remarks.

 

Elected officials who were in the audience were recognized.

 

The chairs opened public testimony.  Witnesses who testified are shown on the attached list. 

 

At 11:15 a.m. Senator Gallegos, Jr. assumed the chair. 

 

At 11:17 a.m. Senator Seliger resumed the chair. 

 

At 1:11 p.m. Senator Gallegos, Jr. assumed the chair.

 

At 1:19 p.m. Senator Seliger resumed the chair.

 

After all witnesses were heard, public testimony was closed.  

 

Senator Seliger gave closing remarks.  Members of the Senate Select Committee on Redistricting also gave closing remarks.

 

There being no further business, at 2:26 p.m. Senator Seliger moved that the Committee stand recessed subject to the call of the chair.  Without objection, it was so ordered.
