Amend CSSB 8 (house committee report) by adding the following appropriately numbered SECTIONS to the bill and renumbering subsequent SECTIONS of the bill accordingly:

SECTION ____.  Section 22.0512(a), Education Code, is amended to read as follows:

(a)  A professional employee of a school district may not be subject to disciplinary proceedings for the employee's objectively reasonable use of physical force against a student to the extent justified under Section 9.62, Penal Code.

SECTION ____.  Section 22.0512(a), Education Code, as amended by this Act, applies only to a school district employee disciplinary proceeding for conduct that occurs on or after the effective date of this Act. A school district employee disciplinary proceeding for conduct that occurs before the effective date of this Act is governed by the law in effect on the date the conduct occurs, and that law is continued in effect for that purpose.
