R E S O L U T I O N
 
         WHEREAS, Nell Burks Elementary School in McKinney is the
  first campus to be designated as a Healthy Zone School as part of
  the Healthy Zone School Recognition Program; and
         WHEREAS, Developed by the Cooper Institute in partnership
  with the United Way of Metropolitan Dallas and the Texas Education
  Agency, the initiative uses evidence-based knowledge and best
  practices to assist schools in creating an optimal environment for
  promoting healthy behaviors; a total of nine schools nationwide
  will receive the award over the next three years; additionally,
  select schools that are working toward the goal of improving the
  health of their students, parents, and teachers with guidance from
  the Cooper Institute are recognized as Healthy Zone Schools--In
  Training; and
         WHEREAS, Burks Elementary achieved the designation by
  meeting certain established criteria, including encouraging 60
  minutes of vigorous physical activity a day, promoting
  interscholastic and intramural sports, and providing nutritional
  options such as whole grains, fruit, and vegetables on the school
  menu; along with the recognition, the school receives a Healthy
  Zone banner and flag, $1,500 for physical education equipment, and
  funding for activity promotions; and
         WHEREAS, Distinguished as a champion in health, nutrition,
  and physical education, Burks Elementary is a leading example for
  other schools in its community, and it is indeed a pleasure to honor
  all those associated with the campus for their outstanding efforts;
  now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas
  Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby congratulate Nell Burks
  Elementary School on earning recognition as a Healthy Zone School
  and extend to the students, staff, faculty, and parents sincere
  best wishes for continued success; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Burks Elementary as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
