R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Nell Burks Elementary School in McKinney is the |
|
first campus to be designated as a Healthy Zone School as part of |
|
the Healthy Zone School Recognition Program; and |
|
WHEREAS, Developed by the Cooper Institute in partnership |
|
with the United Way of Metropolitan Dallas and the Texas Education |
|
Agency, the initiative uses evidence-based knowledge and best |
|
practices to assist schools in creating an optimal environment for |
|
promoting healthy behaviors; a total of nine schools nationwide |
|
will receive the award over the next three years; additionally, |
|
select schools that are working toward the goal of improving the |
|
health of their students, parents, and teachers with guidance from |
|
the Cooper Institute are recognized as Healthy Zone Schools--In |
|
Training; and |
|
WHEREAS, Burks Elementary achieved the designation by |
|
meeting certain established criteria, including encouraging 60 |
|
minutes of vigorous physical activity a day, promoting |
|
interscholastic and intramural sports, and providing nutritional |
|
options such as whole grains, fruit, and vegetables on the school |
|
menu; along with the recognition, the school receives a Healthy |
|
Zone banner and flag, $1,500 for physical education equipment, and |
|
funding for activity promotions; and |
|
WHEREAS, Distinguished as a champion in health, nutrition, |
|
and physical education, Burks Elementary is a leading example for |
|
other schools in its community, and it is indeed a pleasure to honor |
|
all those associated with the campus for their outstanding efforts; |
|
now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas |
|
Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby congratulate Nell Burks |
|
Elementary School on earning recognition as a Healthy Zone School |
|
and extend to the students, staff, faculty, and parents sincere |
|
best wishes for continued success; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Burks Elementary as an expression of high regard by the |
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
