R E S O L U T I O N
 
         WHEREAS, The Starr County Town Crier is marking its 25th
  anniversary in 2011, and this occasion provides a fitting
  opportunity to recognize founder Lino Canales, Jr., for his
  achievements; and
         WHEREAS, On January 1, 1986, Mr. Canales and his wife, Becky
  Canales, published the first issue of the Town Crier; its office was
  originally located on East Highway 83 in Rio Grande City, and in
  1992 it moved to its current location on Norris Street; and
         WHEREAS, The newspaper began with a weekly circulation of
  10,000; in 2008, it reached 15,000, and the publication today has
  the largest circulation of any newspaper in Starr County; home
  delivery has enabled the paper to reach a larger audience, and it
  attracts readers with special editions for Christmas, the county
  fair, and high school graduations; and
         WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Mr. Canales enjoys the support
  and encouragement of his wife, Becky, and four children, Lino
  Canales III, Marisela Garcia, Jorge Eduardo Canales, and Javier
  Hernan Canales, as well as five grandchildren; and
         WHEREAS, Newspapers play a vital role in our communities, and
  through his stewardship of the Starr County Town Crier, Lino
  Canales has greatly benefited his fellow citizens; now, therefore,
  be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas
  Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby honor Lino Canales, Jr.,
  for his contributions to Starr County and extend to him sincere best
  wishes for continued success; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mr. Canales as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
