R E S O L U T I O N
 
         WHEREAS, Dr. Mamiliano Juan Rodriguez devoted much of his
  life to serving his community, and Starr County was made a better
  place because of his actions and the example he set; and
         WHEREAS, A native of Reynosa, Mexico, Mamiliano Rodriguez was
  born on May 6, 1905; he came to Texas with his family during the
  Mexican Revolution and grew up in Hidalgo; after graduating from
  high school, he attended Tulane University and the University of
  Alabama, and he went on to earn his medical degree from the
  University of Oklahoma; and
         WHEREAS, Dr. Rodriguez completed his internship and settled
  in Rio Grande City in 1934, becoming the town surgeon; he later
  served his country as a member of the U.S. Medical Corps during
  World War II, earning the rank of colonel and overseeing an air
  evacuation hospital service unit; and
         WHEREAS, During his notable medical career, Dr. Rodriguez
  delivered more than 4,000 babies; along with his wife, Rebecca, who
  became a registered nurse, he helped to establish the Rodriguez
  Hospital in Rio Grande City, and he was known to never turn away a
  patient; and
         WHEREAS, Dr. Rodriguez further served as Starr County judge
  for 22 years; he was a founding member of the Starr County New Party
  and a valued contributor to the South Texas Democratic Party; a 32nd
  degree Mason, he was also interested in soil conservation and took
  an active role in his ranching and farming business; and
         WHEREAS, Known as a man who demonstrated "malice towards none
  and charity to all," Dr. Rodriguez was a highly respected community
  leader; although he passed away on July 13, 1968, his life remains
  an inspiring example of the good that one person can accomplish, and
  his contributions live on in his legacy of service and achievement;
  now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas
  Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the memory
  of Dr. Mamiliano Juan Rodriguez and honor his work in behalf of the
  people of Starr County.
