R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, In 2011, Cruz Garza, Jr., retired from Rio Grande |
|
City High School, where he had been the auto body instructor for |
|
more than four decades; and |
|
WHEREAS, Born on October 2, 1939, in Los Villareales to Cruz |
|
Garza and Guadalupe Rodriguez Garza, Cruz Garza, Jr., grew up in a |
|
family of 14 children; he played baseball for Rio Grande City High |
|
School and was part of the 1959 team that was the most successful in |
|
the school's history; in 1961, two years after graduation, he |
|
married his high school sweetheart, Diana Solis Garza, and together |
|
they have shared a rewarding relationship and raised three |
|
children, Clarissa, Diana Margot, and Luis Carlos; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Garza was hired as an auto body instructor by Rio |
|
Grande City High School in 1970; over the next 41 years, he served |
|
as a mentor to many students, and a number of those he taught won |
|
first place in state competitions and went on to make their living |
|
in the auto repair and maintenance fields; in recognition of his |
|
outstanding work, he was named Teacher of the Year for the 1999-2000 |
|
school year; and |
|
WHEREAS, A successful business owner in addition to being an |
|
educator, Mr. Garza has run Garza's Paint and Body Shop since 1979, |
|
and he plans to continue to oversee it in the years ahead; his other |
|
plans include enjoying his newly remodeled house, tending his |
|
goats, and spending time with his six grandchildren and six |
|
great-grandchildren; and |
|
WHEREAS, Cruz Garza, Jr., has made a positive difference in |
|
the lives of many young Texans, and he may indeed reflect with pride |
|
on a career well spent as he embarks on an exciting new chapter in |
|
his life; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas |
|
Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby congratulate Cruz Garza, |
|
Jr., on his retirement from Rio Grande City High School and extend |
|
to him sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Mr. Garza as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
House of Representatives. |
