R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, A full and productive life drew to a close with the |
|
passing of George Vernon Wright, Jr., of San Antonio, on June 1, |
|
2011, at the age of 85; and |
|
WHEREAS, The son of George and Clara Wright, Mr. Wright was |
|
born in St. Louis, Missouri, on October 11, 1925; he grew up in |
|
Wheatland, Missouri, and completed high school in Raleigh, North |
|
Carolina; he attended Kings Business College in Raleigh before |
|
serving his country in the United States Army in Japan during World |
|
War II; later, he attended John Brown University in Arkansas and |
|
became a territorial manager for Owens-Illinois in Texas until his |
|
retirement in 1987; he and his wife, Freida, owned the Diet Center |
|
on Bandera Road until 1993; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Wright served as a precinct election judge for |
|
many years, and he was a valued congregant of First Baptist Church |
|
of San Antonio; a fan of big band music and ballroom dancing, he was |
|
a member of the K Supper Club; he enjoyed dancing at its events with |
|
Mrs. Wright and always cut a fine figure in his stylish suits and |
|
wingtip shoes; blessed with a lovely voice, he often delighted |
|
those around him by singing along with ballads and hymns on the |
|
radio; his other great pleasures included gardening and watching |
|
the Fox news channel, Lawrence Welk, and British comedies, a taste |
|
he acquired from his English-born bride; and |
|
WHEREAS, Charming and empathetic, George Wright brought joy |
|
to innumerable people through his warm, engaging manner; although |
|
his death has deeply saddened his loved ones, he has left behind |
|
many fond memories that they will forever treasure; now, therefore, |
|
be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas |
|
Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the life of |
|
George Vernon Wright, Jr., and extend sincere sympathy to the |
|
members of his family: to his wife of 32 years, Freida Wright; to |
|
his sons, Greger Wright, Mike Wright, Major Curby Graham, and Kerry |
|
Graham; to his daughters-in-law, Stephanie and Kristina; to his |
|
grandchildren, Claire, Vivian, Kennah, and Kolton; to his sister, |
|
Ann Measell, and her husband, Dave; to his brother, Richard Wright, |
|
and his wife, Lynn; and to his other relatives and friends; and, be |
|
it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of |
|
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of George |
|
Vernon Wright, Jr. |
