R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, Proud veteran and public servant Reymundo Alvarez of |
|
Roma contributed greatly to his fellow citizens before his death in |
|
1984, and he left behind a record of service that his loved ones |
|
still remember with pride; and |
|
WHEREAS, Born in Roma on September 11, 1928, to Zenaida and |
|
Lorenzo Alvarez, Reymundo Alvarez was the youngest of nine |
|
children; he served his country as a member of the U.S. Air Force |
|
from 1950 to 1954, attaining the rank of corporal; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Alvarez returned to the Rio Grande Valley and |
|
joined the Roma police force; in 1965, he was elected as constable |
|
of Precinct 2, a post he held until the early 1970s, at which time he |
|
ran for and captured the office of sheriff of Starr County; he |
|
continued to distinguish himself in that role until 1981; and |
|
WHEREAS, Through the years, Sheriff Alvarez was further |
|
involved in his community as a member of the Knights of Columbus, |
|
the Lions Club, and the Jaycees, and he served as commander of the |
|
local and district chapters of the Veterans of Foreign Wars; he was |
|
supported in his endeavors by his wife, Ana Maria Saenz, and their |
|
four children, Reymundo, Migdalia, Melissa, and Miroslava; and |
|
WHEREAS, Though Sheriff Alvarez has been gone for some time, |
|
memories of his patriotism, dedication, and leadership continue to |
|
inspire all those who were fortunate enough to know him; now, |
|
therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas |
|
Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby honor the life and legacy |
|
of former Starr County sheriff Reymundo Alvarez. |
