R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, United States Marine Corps Sergeant Jacob De la |
|
Garza of Edinburg was gravely wounded in the line of duty on May 21, |
|
2011, while serving his country in Afghanistan; and |
|
WHEREAS, Deployed to Afghanistan with the 1st Battalion, 5th |
|
Marine Division, Sergeant De la Garza was injured while on patrol |
|
when a roadside bomb exploded in Sangin, a small town northwest of |
|
Kandahar; he was flown to Germany and then to the Naval Medical |
|
Center in San Diego for treatment; and |
|
WHEREAS, Jacob De la Garza graduated from Edinburg High |
|
School in 2000 and was stationed at Camp Pendleton in California; |
|
before his deployment to Afghanistan, this brave young Texan |
|
completed three tours of duty in Iraq; as recounted in the book We |
|
Were One: Shoulder to Shoulder with the Marines Who Took Fallujah, |
|
Sergeant De la Garza saved the lives of several fellow Marines when |
|
they were attacked by the enemy; and |
|
WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Sergeant De la Garza is |
|
supported by the love of a devoted family that includes his wife, |
|
Priscilla, his two children, Jayden and Brealynn, his mother, Anita |
|
de Leon, his father, Robert De la Garza, and his brothers, Javier |
|
and Julian De la Garza; and |
|
WHEREAS, Americans owe a profound debt of gratitude to our |
|
country's military personnel, for they are called on to bear great, |
|
often unimaginable burdens, and they render service and sacrifice |
|
that is truly beyond measure; Sergeant De la Garza embodies the |
|
highest ideals of the United States armed forces, and his courage |
|
under fire and his unwavering commitment to his mission and to his |
|
comrades-in-arms make him truly deserving of commendation; now, |
|
therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas |
|
Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby honor Sergeant Jacob De la |
|
Garza for his valorous service in Iraq and Afghanistan and extend to |
|
him heartfelt best wishes for the future; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Sergeant De la Garza as an expression of high regard by |
|
the Texas House of Representatives. |
