R E S O L U T I O N

|
|
WHEREAS, The Volar Center for Independent Living in El Paso |
|
|
has been named the 2011 Center for Independent Living of the Year by |
|
|
the State of Texas; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Established in 1981 by the Texas Rehabilitation |
|
|
Commission and EPOCH, the Volar Center for Independent Living is a |
|
|
private nonprofit corporation led by and for individuals with |
|
|
disabilities; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The organization is dedicated to advocating human |
|
|
and civil rights, bolstering opportunities in the community, and |
|
|
empowering men and women with special needs to control and direct |
|
|
their own lives; in an effort to meet these worthwhile goals, Volar |
|
|
offers information, referral, and transportation services, |
|
|
independent living skills training, and peer counseling; in |
|
|
addition, the center hosts a Home By Choice program to assist men |
|
|
and women as they transition out of nursing facilities and a lending |
|
|
closet to supply medical equipment to people in need; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, For 30 years, the Volar Center for Independent |
|
|
Living has helped to enhance the lives of many West Texans, and all |
|
|
those associated with this notable enterprise may take great pride |
|
|
in their contributions; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas |
|
|
Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby congratulate the Volar |
|
|
Center for Independent Living on being named the 2011 Center for |
|
|
Independent Living of the Year by the State of Texas and extend to |
|
|
its management and staff sincere best wishes for continued success |
|
|
with their important work; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for the center as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
|
House of Representatives. |
