R E S O L U T I O N
 
         WHEREAS, Mike Rawlings was elected mayor of Dallas on June
  18, 2011; and
         WHEREAS, Deeply committed to his community, Mr. Rawlings has
  served in numerous leadership roles in the Metroplex over the
  years; while chairing the Dallas Convention and Visitors Bureau, he
  focused on bringing new revenue to the city, and during his tenure
  as president of the Park and Recreation Board, he pioneered the use
  of public-private partnerships to raise needed funds; as the chair
  of the Metro Dallas Homeless Alliance from 2005 to 2010, he oversaw
  the construction and opening of The Bridge, a facility in downtown
  Dallas that provides both emergency and transition care and housing
  for those in need; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Rawlings is an accomplished business executive
  who has served with a number of notable companies, including Pizza
  Hut, which he led from 1997 to 2003; previously, he spent 19 years
  with the DDB Dallas Group, a marketing and advertising firm, where
  he was CEO, and he also helped to found the private equity firm CIC
  Partners and was the chair and CEO of Legends Hospitality
  Management; moreover, he has been a director or board member of a
  number of other businesses and organizations; and
         WHEREAS, A graduate of Boston College, Mr. Rawlings has
  lectured widely and has taught at Southern Methodist University; he
  has further shared his time and talents as a member of the boards of
  the Pittsburgh Theological Seminary and the Jesuit College
  Preparatory School of Dallas and is active in the Young Presidents'
  Organization and the Dallas Citizens Council; his achievements have
  been recognized with awards from the Dallas Historical Society, the
  Anti-Defamation League, and St. Philip's School and Community
  Center; and
         WHEREAS, In all of his endeavors, Mr. Rawlings enjoys the
  love and support of his wife, Micki, and his children, Michelle and
  Gunnar; he and his wife live in North Dallas and attend First
  Presbyterian Church; and
         WHEREAS, Mike Rawlings brings extensive leadership
  experience to his new post, and his achievements merit special
  recognition; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas
  Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby congratulate Mike Rawlings
  on his election as mayor of the City of Dallas and extend to him
  sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mr. Rawlings as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
