R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Members of the Texas Stars Service Unit of the San
  Jacinto Council are celebrating the 100th anniversary of the
  founding of Girl Scouts of the USA in 2012; and
         WHEREAS, The world's preeminent organization for girls,
  GSUSA was established in Savannah, Georgia, in 1912, and the San
  Jacinto Council was created by Houston residents a decade later;
  the Girl Scout program promotes positive values, social
  consciousness, and self-esteem while teaching important life
  skills; today, the membership includes more than 3.5 million girls
  and adults; and
         WHEREAS, The Texas Stars Service Unit includes over 300
  scouts from troops in the Lamar Consolidated Independent School
  District and the Fort Bend Independent School District; members
  participate in a wide variety of projects, including food drives,
  ecological preservation, cleanup initiatives, animal protection,
  and activities that support members of the military; through their
  efforts in behalf of others, scouts can earn the bronze, silver, or
  gold award in a program designed to build leadership skills and
  foster a commitment to the community; among the organizations that
  have benefited from the contributions of the Texas Stars Service
  Unit are DePelchin Children's Center, the Brookshire Nursing
  Center, Fort Bend Seniors Meals on Wheels, and Houston Marine Moms;
  and
         WHEREAS, By making a positive impact in their communities,
  the young women of the Texas Stars are contributing to a proud
  tradition of leadership and service, and it is indeed appropriate
  to recognize them at this time; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas
  Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby honor the Texas Stars
  Service Unit on the occasion of the centennial of Girl Scouts of the
  USA and extend to the members sincere best wishes for success in
  their worthwhile endeavors; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the organization as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
