R E S O L U T I O N
 
         WHEREAS, The Navarro College baseball team reached the
  pinnacle of success on June 4, 2011, when it claimed the National
  Junior College Athletic Association Division I national
  championship with a victory in the title game of the JUCO World
  Series; and
         WHEREAS, After establishing a 37-17 record in the regular
  season, these determined athletes battled their way to the
  championship contest with a series of outstanding performances in
  the playoffs; the Bulldogs won four straight games to become
  champions of the Southern Region, thereby earning a berth in the
  world series tournament in Grand Junction, Colorado; they continued
  their win streak with triumphs over Southern Union State Community
  College, Iowa Western, and Chipola; after a loss to Central Arizona
  on June 1, they rebounded with a nine-run effort the next day to
  best Iowa Western and secure a place in the tournament final; and
         WHEREAS, With the championship on the line, Navarro was once
  again pitted against Central Arizona, and their showdown proved to
  be an evenly matched classic that left the teams knotted at four
  runs apiece after nine innings of play; the dramatic conclusion
  came in the bottom of the 10th, when Bulldog catcher J. T. Files
  blasted a two-run walk-off home run to give his team the victory and
  the national title; and
         WHEREAS, Guided by head coach Whoa Dill, the Navarro team
  finished the year with an overall record of 46 wins and 18 losses,
  and the members of the Bulldog roster demonstrated notable
  dedication and ability as they worked toward their season-long
  goal; and
         WHEREAS, In proving themselves the finest Division I junior
  college team in the nation, the Navarro Bulldogs have won the
  admiration of their many supporters in the Corsicana community, and
  the players will forever treasure their memories of this
  exceptional achievement; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas
  Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby congratulate the Navarro
  College baseball team on winning the 2011 NJCAA Division I national
  championship and extend to the team's players, coaches, and staff
  sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the Navarro Bulldogs as an expression of high regard by
  the Texas House of Representatives.
