R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Machree Garrett Gibson was elected president of the |
|
Texas Exes alumni association in 2011; and |
|
WHEREAS, A native of Austin, Machree Gibson graduated from |
|
The University of Texas at Austin in 1982 with a bachelor's degree |
|
in English and earned her juris doctorate from the UT School of Law |
|
in 1991; and |
|
WHEREAS, She has distinguished herself professionally in |
|
governmental positions at the state and municipal levels and as an |
|
attorney for a major national law firm; today, Ms. Gibson is a |
|
partner with Graydon, Gibson & Brown in Austin and a lobbyist with |
|
the Graydon Group; and |
|
WHEREAS, Over the years, Ms. Gibson has benefited the |
|
university through her service with the UT Development Board, the |
|
Commission of 125, the UT School of Law Alumni Association |
|
Executive Committee, and the Texas Exes Board of Directors; and |
|
WHEREAS, This esteemed Texan has also given back to her |
|
community as a participant in Leadership Texas, the State Bar of |
|
Texas, and the Town Lake Chapter of The Links, Incorporated; she is |
|
the recipient of awards from the Texas Exes and from the Texas |
|
Legislative Black Caucus, and she now holds the distinction of |
|
being the first African American woman to serve as president of the |
|
Texas Exes; and |
|
WHEREAS, In accepting this new position Machree Gibson has |
|
further demonstrated her deep commitment to her alma mater, and she |
|
is sure to be a strong leader for the organization as it carries out |
|
its mission of supporting The University of Texas at Austin and its |
|
graduates; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas |
|
Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby congratulate Machree |
|
Garrett Gibson on her election as president of the Texas Exes and |
|
extend to her sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it |
|
further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Ms. Gibson as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
House of Representatives. |
