SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
  WHEREAS, The 80th birthday of an esteemed Texan is indeed
  cause for celebration, and Melba Glyn Hill Cook of Waller reached
  that impressive milestone on May 30, 2011; and
         WHEREAS, The daughter of Paul Dewey Hill and Lois Moore Hill,
  Melba Glyn Hill was born in Mount Vernon in 1931; she married E. Ray
  Cook on September 1, 1951, and the couple were blessed with three
  children, Mary Alice, Michael Ray, and Marla Sue, and enjoyed 58
  years together before Mr. Cook's death in 2009; and
         WHEREAS, Today, Mrs. Cook is the proud matriarch of a family
  that also includes four grandchildren, Mark and Melissa Kilcullen
  and Jason and Amanda Cook, as well as four great-grandchildren,
  James and Jonathan Cook, Zoey Kilcullen, and Jaxon Stafford; she is
  a respected member of her community who is known for her fairness,
  dedication, and concern for the common good, and she is a valued
  congregant of Becker Road Baptist Church; and
         WHEREAS, Among the many roles Mrs. Cook has played over the
  years is family genealogist, successfully tracing the history of
  not only the Hill, Davis, Martin, and Moore branches of her family,
  but also the Quarles and Cook branches of her husband's family; in
  addition, she initiated the annual Hill, Martin, and Davis reunion
  to the delight of her loved ones; her interest in her ancestry has
  been enhanced by membership in the Daughters of the American
  Revolution, the United Daughters of the Confederacy, and the
  Daughters of Union Veterans of the Civil War; and
         WHEREAS, Kind, generous, and hardworking, Melba Cook is a
  source of inspiration to all who are fortunate enough to know her,
  and it is indeed a pleasure to honor her for her accomplishments
  during 80 years of life well lived; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the 82nd Legislature of the State of Texas,
  1st Called Session, hereby congratulate Melba Glyn Hill Cook on her
  80th birthday and extend to her sincere best wishes for continued
  happiness; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mrs. Cook as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  Senate and House of Representatives.
