SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 8
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
  recognize Dr. Jose Manuel Benavides for his outstanding service
  on the Texas Medical Board; and
         WHEREAS, Dr. Jose Benavides earned his medical degree from
  Nuevo Leon University, in Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, Mexico, in 1955;
  he received postgraduate training as a fellow in Internal
  Medicine at the Lahey Clinic in Boston, Massachusetts; and
         WHEREAS, Dr. Benavides was licensed by the Texas Medical
  Board in 1957 and was self-employed in the private practice of
  Internal Medicine in San Antonio from 1959 to 1994; he then
  joined The University of Texas Health Science Center at San
  Antonio, where he served as a clinical professor until 2006; and
         WHEREAS, Over the course of his medical career, Dr. Benavides
  has served at a number of hospitals, including Christus Santa
  Rosa Hospital, where he has served in numerous capacities; he has
  been a much-sought-after lecturer, and he is a member of many
  professional associations; and
         WHEREAS, Dr. Benavides was appointed to the Texas Medical
  Board in 1999 and was reappointed for a second six-year term in
  2005; during his distinguished tenure on the board, he has given
  generously of his time and energy and has demonstrated his
  profound commitment to ensuring that Texans receive the best of
  medical care; and
         WHEREAS, His diligent work on the board's committees
  includes serving as chair of the Finance Committee and the
 
  Ad Hoc Committee to Study Office-Based Anesthesia, the Ad Hoc
  Committee for Optometric Issues, and the Licensure Committee;
  and
         WHEREAS, Noted for his integrity, his deep-seated sense of
  duty, his intellect, and his insight, Dr. Benavides leaves an
  exemplary legacy of dedication to upholding the highest
  standards of medical care; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd
  Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby commend Dr. Jose Manuel
  Benavides on his exceptional service on the Texas Medical Board
  and on his many contributions to the quality of health care in our
  state; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
