SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 29

Jean Gatling Phillips |
|
|
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the |
|
|
|
Jean Gatling Phillips, who died May 29, 2011, at the age of 93; |
|
and |
|
WHEREAS, A fourth-generation Texan on both sides of her |
|
family, Jean Gatling Phillips moved with her family to the Rio |
|
Grande Valley in 1921; she graduated from McAllen High School and |
|
attended The University of Texas; and |
|
WHEREAS, She married Fred Phillips, Jr., in 1937, and the |
|
couple raised five children in McAllen; after her children were |
|
grown, she returned to school and earned a degree from Pan |
|
American University and taught kindergarten at Navarro |
|
Elementary School for 10 years; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mrs. Phillips was a devout Christian who |
|
practiced her faith in her daily life; she and her husband were |
|
|
|
WHEREAS, A woman of courage, grace, and compassion, she |
|
gave generously to others, and her wisdom, warmth, and valued |
|
counsel will not be forgotten by those who knew her; and |
|
WHEREAS, She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, |
|
and she leaves behind memories that will be treasured forever by |
|
her family and many friends; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd |
|
Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby extend sincere |
|
condolences to the bereaved family of Jean Gatling Phillips; and, |
|
be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|
|
|
and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in memory of |
|
Jean Gatling Phillips. |
