SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 29
 
 
  In Memory
  of
  Jean Gatling Phillips
 
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the
 
  Jean Gatling Phillips, who died May 29, 2011, at the age of 93;
  and
         WHEREAS, A fourth-generation Texan on both sides of her
  family, Jean Gatling Phillips moved with her family to the Rio
  Grande Valley in 1921; she graduated from McAllen High School and
  attended The University of Texas; and
         WHEREAS, She married Fred Phillips, Jr., in 1937, and the
  couple raised five children in McAllen; after her children were
  grown, she returned to school and earned a degree from Pan
  American University and taught kindergarten at Navarro
  Elementary School for 10 years; and
         WHEREAS, Mrs. Phillips was a devout Christian who
  practiced her faith in her daily life; she and her husband were
 
         WHEREAS, A woman of courage, grace, and compassion, she
  gave generously to others, and her wisdom, warmth, and valued
  counsel will not be forgotten by those who knew her; and
         WHEREAS, She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother,
  and she leaves behind memories that will be treasured forever by
  her family and many friends; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd
  Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby extend sincere
  condolences to the bereaved family of Jean Gatling Phillips; and,
  be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
 
  and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in memory of
  Jean Gatling Phillips.
