SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 37
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
  recognize Chavis Willis for his exemplary service to his fellow
  citizens and his community; and
         WHEREAS, Coach Willis is a beloved and respected member of
  the Alta Mesa community in Dallas, where he has long played an
  important role in the education and development of the city's
  youth; and
         WHEREAS, For many years, Mr. Willis served as coach of the
  local Pop Warner football team, the Alta Mesa Colts; for over two
  decades, he helped young men participate in productive
  activities and encouraged them to stay healthy and drug free; and
         WHEREAS, A mentor and role model to countless young men
  from the late 1960s to the late 1980s, he took them to church,
  shared with them the hospitality of his home, and coached them
  with exemplary enthusiasm and expertise; and
         WHEREAS, He is a devout Christian and has been an active
  member of Bethel Baptist Church; now retired from his position at
  Texas Instruments, he continues to work when he is needed at one
  of the Dallas area Head Start programs; and
         WHEREAS, Chavis Willis is dedicated to his family and to
  the betterment of his community, and he truly represents the best
  of Texas' citizenry; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd
  Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby commend Chavis Willis
  for his outstanding service to the Alta Mesa community as a coach
  and a mentor to its young men and extend to him best wishes for
  the future; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
