SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 74
|
|
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |
|
recognize Delvin Dennis for his 31 years of outstanding service |
|
to the Texas Department of Transportation; and |
|
WHEREAS, After earning a bachelor of science degree in |
|
civil engineering from the University of Houston in 1980, Delvin |
|
Dennis joined the Texas Department of Transportation as an |
|
engineering assistant in the Houston Urban Project Office; he |
|
earned his professional engineer's license in 1985 and served in |
|
various other positions in the Houston District; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Dennis was named the district's deputy |
|
engineer in 1998, and 10 years later, he became the Houston |
|
District Engineer; in this capacity, he has been responsible for |
|
managing all engineering operations for the six-county Houston |
|
District, the department's largest district in terms of |
|
registered vehicles, population, and vehicle miles traveled; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Dennis is credited with successfully guiding |
|
the district through such challenges as the construction of the |
|
Grand Parkway and the district's planning for and response to |
|
Hurricane Ike, which came ashore in Galveston in 2008; and |
|
WHEREAS, During his tenure, Mr. Dennis has been dedicated |
|
to providing high-quality management for all Houston District |
|
engineering activities, and he has consistently taken into |
|
consideration the effect that the district's projects would have |
|
on area citizens; and |
|
WHEREAS, Due to his ever-present good judgment, expertise, |
|
and concern for the citizens of Texas, Delvin Dennis has long |
|
held the enduring respect of all who work in the Texas Department |
|
of Transportation; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd |
|
Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby commend Delvin Dennis on |
|
his many accomplishments as Houston District Engineer and on his |
|
exceptional career with the Texas Department of Transportation |
|
and extend to him best wishes for the retirement years ahead; |
|
and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|
him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. |
