SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 78
         WHEREAS, The birth of a white buffalo is widely believed by
  many Native American tribes to be an auspicious event and a
  powerful omen of good fortune; and
 
         WHEREAS, A white buffalo calf was recently born on the
  Lakota Ranch in North Texas, during a thunderstorm; this revered
  cultural symbol will receive its name, Lightning Medicine Cloud,
  at a special blessing and dedication ceremony to be performed by
  tribal elders and medicine men on June 29, 2011; and
 
         WHEREAS, The ceremony will also feature Native American
  crafts and foods and will present an opportunity for Texans from
  all walks of life to participate in the celebration, which
  reflects a vital part of the rich historical and cultural legacy
  of this state and nation; now, therefore, be it
 
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd
  Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby encourage all Texans to
  celebrate the birth of this icon of Native American culture and
  extend best wishes for a memorable naming ceremony; and, be it
  further
 
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in
  honor of this special event.
