SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 117

WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize the Lanier Middle School speech and debate team, which recently won its ninth consecutive national championship at the 2011 National Forensic League Tournament in Dallas; and

WHEREAS, The Lanier Middle School speech and debate team faced teams from across the nation on the way to winning this prestigious honor; the team won recognition for Lanier Middle School as Overall School of Excellence and Debate School of Excellence in the middle school tournament; and

WHEREAS, These young scholars have demonstrated great talent and perseverance over the course of the school year, and this outstanding victory is a reflection of their hard work and determination to succeed; and

WHEREAS, Debate coach Franz Hill has led the team for four years; under his superior leadership and expertise, and with the support of a committed school administration and the aid of alumni assistant coaches, team members have developed strong skills in communication and critical thinking that will serve them well throughout their lives; and

WHEREAS, Lanier Middle School and the people of Houston are proud of these young people for their hard work and their impressive achievements; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby commend the Lanier Middle School speech and debate team on its legacy of success and extend congratulations to team members on winning a ninth consecutive national championship; and, be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the team as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
