H.B. 142

By: Laubenberg

Public Health

Committee Report (Unamended)

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE

The difference between the responsibilities of a psychologist and those of a psychological associate are not clearly addressed in statute. H.B. 142 seeks to address this issue by prohibiting a psychological associate from engaging in the practice of psychology unless under the supervision of a psychologist.

RULEMAKING AUTHORITY

It is the committee's opinion that this bill does not expressly grant any additional rulemaking authority to a state officer, department, agency, or institution.

ANALYSIS

H.B. 142 amends the Occupations Code to prohibit a psychological associate from engaging in the practice of psychology unless the psychological associate practices under the supervision of a psychologist. The bill makes a conforming change.

EFFECTIVE DATE

September 1, 2011.
