AUTHOR'S / SPONSOR'S STATEMENT OF INTENT

 

This bill is the House companion to S.B. 922, which was heard in the Senate Transportation Committee on March 31 and reported out with the recommendation that it be placed on the Local and Uncontested Calendar.

 

These bills would designate a section of State Highway 243 in Van Zandt County between State Highway 198 and State Highway 64 as Veterans Memorial Parkway.  Included in the bill is the creation of new signs and markers indicating the highway's new designation.

 

H.B. 1409 amends current law relating to the designation of a segment of State Highway 243 in Van Zandt County as the Veterans Memorial Parkway.

 

RULEMAKING AUTHORITY

 

This bill does not expressly grant any additional rulemaking authority to a state officer, institution, or agency.

 

SECTION BY SECTION ANALYSIS

 

SECTION 1.  Amends Subchapter B, Chapter 225, Transportation Code, by adding Section 225.082, as follows:

 

Sec.  225.082.  VETERANS MEMORIAL PARKWAY.  (a)  Provides that State Highway 243 in Van Zandt County, between State Highway 198 and State Highway 64, is designated as the Veterans Memorial Parkway.

 

(b) Requires the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), subject to Section 225.021(c) (relating to costs associated with designing, constructing, and erecting road signs), to:

 

(1) design and construct memorial markers indicating the highway number, the designation as the Veterans Memorial Parkway, and other appropriate information; and

 

(2) erect a marker at each end of the parkway and at appropriate intermediate sites along the parkway.

 

SECTION 2.  Effective date: September 1, 2011.
