AUTHOR'S / SPONSOR'S STATEMENT OF INTENT
Currently, the official website, or Internet portal, for the State of Texas is Texas.gov. Operated by the Department of Information Resources in partnership with a private vendor, Texas.gov replaced TexasOnline.com when that site was updated to reflect new website naming conventions. The purpose of H.B. 1504 is to replace statutory references to "TexasOnline" with the generic term "state electronic Internet portal" so that those references will not have to be changed if the site is renamed.
H.B. 1504 amends current law relating to statutory references to the common electronic infrastructure project formerly known as TexasOnline.
RULEMAKING AUTHORITY
Rulemaking authority previously granted to the Texas Department of Public Safety is modified in SECTION 31 (Section 548.258, Transportation Code) of this bill.
SECTION BY SECTION ANALYSIS
SECTION 1. Amends Article 45.0511(c-1), Code of Criminal Procedure, to define "state electronic Internet portal," rather than "TexasOnline," and change references to TexasOnline to state electronic Internet portal.

SECTION 10. Amends Section 2054.003(15), Government Code, to define "state electronic Internet portal," rather than "TexasOnline."
SECTION 11. Amends Section 2054.055(b), Government Code, to make conforming changes.
SECTION 12. Amends the heading to Section 2054.111, Government Code, to read as follows:

SECTION 32. Amends Section 55.203(a), Utilities Code, to change references to TexasOnline to state electronic Internet portal.
SECTION 33. Effective date: upon passage or September 1, 2011.
