AUTHOR'S / SPONSOR'S STATEMENT OF INTENT
H.B. 1528 amends current law relating to consolidating precincts in a primary election.
RULEMAKING AUTHORITY
This bill does not expressly grant any additional rulemaking authority to a state officer, institution, or agency.
SECTION BY SECTION ANALYSIS
SECTION 1. Amends Section 42.009, Election Code, as follows:
Sec. 42.009. CONSOLIDATING PRECINCTS IN PRIMARY ELECTION. Authorizes the county executive committee of a political party holding a primary election to order two or more county election precincts consolidated into a single precinct if the polling place is located so it will adequately serve the voters of the consolidated precinct. Deletes existing text requiring that at least one consolidated precinct be situated wholly within each commissioners precinct.
SECTION 2. Effective date: September 1, 2011.
