H.B. 2371

Transportation

Committee Report (Unamended)

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE

Observers note that legislation is required to name a particular segment of a state highway in honor of significant accomplishments and sacrifices by individuals or groups.  Interested parties assert that it would be appropriate to name a specific segment of State Highway 71 east of Bastrop's municipal boundary in honor of the 95th Division.  H.B. 2371 seeks to designate this segment of the highway as the 95th Division Memorial Highway.

RULEMAKING AUTHORITY

It is the committee's opinion that this bill does not expressly grant any additional rulemaking authority to a state officer, department, agency, or institution.

ANALYSIS

H.B. 2371 amends the Transportation Code to designate the portion of State Highway 71 between the eastern municipal boundary of Bastrop and its intersection with County Road 329 as the 95th Division Memorial Highway. The bill requires the Texas Department of Transportation to design and construct markers indicating the highway number, the designation as the 95th Division Memorial Highway, and any other appropriate information and to erect a marker at each end of the highway and at appropriate intermediate sites along the highway.
