AUTHOR'S / SPONSOR'S STATEMENT OF INTENT

 

The Texas Education Code currently requires the University of Houston System to hold regular annual meetings during the month of April.

 

As proposed, S.B. 528 amends current law relating to meetings of the University of Houston System Board of Regents.

 

RULEMAKING AUTHORITY

 

Rulemaking authority is expressly granted to the board of regents of the University of Houston System in SECTION 1 (Section 111.16, Education Code) of this bill.

 

SECTION BY SECTION ANALYSIS

 

SECTION 1.  Amends Section 111.16, Education Code, as follows:

 

Sec. 111.16.  MEETINGS.  Requires the board of regents (board) of the University of Houston System (university system) to hold regular meetings for the transaction of business pertaining to the affairs of the university system. Authorizes the board by rule to establish a procedure for calling a special meeting of the board at other times. Deletes existing text requiring the board to hold a regular meeting at the campus of the university during the month of April annually, and at other times and places scheduled by the board or designated by the chairman.

 

SECTION 2.  Effective date: September 1, 2011.
