AUTHOR'S / SPONSOR'S STATEMENT OF INTENT
TexasOnline was created in 2000 as the official website for the State of Texas. A 2009 survey found that residents of Texas found the TexasOnline website confusing. Texas.gov was created in 2010 as the new official website for the State of Texas. Content did not change on the new website, Texas.gov, but layout problems were fixed to make the website more accessible.
The purpose of this bill is to replace all references in Texas statutes regarding TexasOnline with "state electronic Internet portal." Using "state electronic Internet portal" will ensure that further revision is not required if the website's name is changed again.
As proposed, S.B. 631 amends current law relating to statutory references to the common electronic infrastructure project formerly known as TexasOnline.
RULEMAKING AUTHORITY
Rulemaking authority previously granted to the Texas Department of Public Safety is modified in SECTION 31 (Section 548.258, Transportation Code) of this bill.
