AUTHOR'S / SPONSOR'S STATEMENT OF INTENT

 

C.S.S.B. 709 amends current law relating to the use of certain professional titles by psychologists.

 

RULEMAKING AUTHORITY

 

Rulemaking authority previously granted to the Texas State Board of Examiners of Psychologists is modified in SECTION 1 (Section 501.156, Occupations Code) of this bill.

 

SECTION BY SECTION ANALYSIS

 

SECTION 1.  Amends Section 501.156(b), Occupations Code, to prohibit the Texas State Board of Examiners of Psychologists (TSBEP) from including in rules to prohibit false, misleading, or deceptive practices by a person regulated by TSBEP certain rules, including a rule that restricts

the use of a title in advertising by a person who is permitted to use that title by law.  Makes a nonsubstantive change.

 

SECTION 2.  Amends Section 501.260, Occupations Code, by adding Subsection (d), to authorize a person who is licensed under this section and who holds a Nationally Certified School Psychologist credential to use the credential "Nationally Certified School Psychologist" and the title "Licensed Specialist in School Psychology."

 

SECTION 3.  Effective date: September 1, 2011.
