AUTHOR'S / SPONSOR'S STATEMENT OF INTENT

 

S.B. 743 designates State Highway 71, between the eastern municipal boundary of Bastrop and its intersection with County Road 329, as the 95th Division Memorial Highway in honor of the division's significant accomplishments and sacrifices for the state and country.  Current law does not assign this stretch of highway any name other than State Highway 71.

 

As proposed, S.B. 743 amends current law relating to the designation of a segment of State Highway 71 as the 95th Division Memorial Highway.

 

RULEMAKING AUTHORITY

 

This bill does not expressly grant any additional rulemaking authority to a state officer, institution, or agency.

 

SECTION BY SECTION ANALYSIS

 

SECTION 1.  Amends Subchapter B, Chapter 225, Transportation Code, by adding Section 225.0277, as follows:

 

Sec.  225.0277.  95TH DIVISION MEMORIAL HIGHWAY.  (a)  Provides that the portion of State Highway 71 between the eastern municipal boundary of Bastrop and its intersection with County Road 329 is designated as the 95th Division Memorial Highway.

 

(b) Requires the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), subject to Section 225.021(c) (relating to a grant or donation of funds for the design, construction, and erection of the marker) to:

 

(1) design and construct markers indicating the highway number, the designation as the 95th Division Memorial Highway, and any other appropriate information; and

 

(2) erect a marker at each end of the highway and at appropriate intermediate sites along the highway.

 

SECTION 2.  Effective date: September 1, 2011.
