A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
|
relating to the first day of instruction for a school year in school |
|
|
districts in which a certain percentage of the students are |
|
|
military dependents. |
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. Section 25.0811, Education Code, is amended by |
|
|
adding Subsection (c) to read as follows: |
|
|
(c) Notwithstanding Subsection (a), a school district in |
|
|
which, in the preceding school year, at least 33 percent of students |
|
|
in enrollment had a parent or guardian who is a member of the armed |
|
|
forces of the United States may begin instruction for students for a |
|
|
school year on or after the third Monday in August. |
|
|
SECTION 2. This Act applies beginning with the 2011-2012 |
|
|
school year. |
|
|
SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|
|
a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|
|
provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|
|
Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|
|
Act takes effect September 1, 2011. |
