A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
relating to a disclosure on advertisements made by a |
|
general-purpose committee of certain political contributions made |
|
to the committee. |
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
SECTION 1. Chapter 255, Election Code, is amended by adding |
|
Section 255.010 to read as follows: |
|
Sec. 255.010. DISCLOSURE BY GENERAL-PURPOSE COMMITTEE. A |
|
general-purpose committee may not knowingly publish, distribute, |
|
or broadcast a political advertisement containing express advocacy |
|
that does not disclose in the advertising the identity of any person |
|
who has made political contributions to the general-purpose |
|
committee that in the aggregate exceed $10,000. The disclosure |
|
must include: |
|
(1) the name of the person who made the contributions; |
|
(2) the city and state in which the person making the |
|
contributions resides; |
|
(3) the principal occupation of the person making the |
|
contributions; and |
|
(4) the amount of the contributions. |
|
SECTION 2. Section 255.010, Election Code, as added by this |
|
Act, applies only to an advertisement that is published, |
|
distributed, or broadcast by a general-purpose committee on or |
|
after September 1, 2011. An advertisement that is published, |
|
distributed, or broadcast by a general-purpose committee before |
|
September 1, 2011, is governed by the law in effect immediately |
|
before September 1, 2011, and the former law is continued in effect |
|
for that purpose. |

SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2011. |
