A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 
AN ACT
  relating to the licensure of athletic trainers.
         BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
         SECTION 1.  Section 451.152, Occupations Code, is amended to
  read as follows:
         Sec. 451.152.  LICENSE APPLICATION. An applicant for an
  athletic trainer license must submit to the board[:
               [(1)]  an application on a form prescribed by the board
  accompanied by:
               (1)  [; and
               [(2)]  the required examination fee if the applicant is
  applying to take the examination administered by the board; or
               (2)  a fee of $500 if the applicant has satisfactorily
  completed a national examination or other examination recognized by
  the board relating to the practice of athletic training.
         SECTION 2.  Section 451.156, Occupations Code, is amended to
  read as follows:
         Sec. 451.156.  REQUIREMENTS FOR LICENSE ISSUANCE. An
  applicant for an athletic trainer license is entitled to receive
  the license if the applicant:
               (1)  satisfies the requirements of Section 451.153 or
  451.154;
               (2)  satisfactorily completes:
                     (A)  the examination administered by the board; or
                     (B)  a national examination or other examination
  recognized by the board relating to the practice of athletic
  training;
               (3)  pays the [required] license fee and other required
  fees; and
               (4)  has not committed an act that constitutes grounds
  for refusal of a license under Section 451.251.
         SECTION 3.  The changes in law made by this Act to Sections
  451.152 and 451.156, Occupations Code, apply to an application for
  an athletic trainer license submitted to the Advisory Board of
  Athletic Trainers on or after the effective date of this Act. An
  application for a license submitted before that date is governed by
  the law in effect on the date the application was submitted, and the
  former law is continued in effect for that purpose.
         SECTION 4.  This Act takes effect September 1, 2011.
