A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
|
relating to providing a parent of a public school student with |
|
|
notice of student performance in the parent's native language. |
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. Section 28.022(b), Education Code, is amended to |
|
|
read as follows: |
|
|
(b) The notice required under Subsections (a)(2) and (a)(3) |
|
|
must: |
|
|
(1) provide for the signature of a student's parent; |
|
|
[and] |
|
|
(2) be returned to the district; and |
|
|
(3) if the student is a student of limited English |
|
|
proficiency, as defined by Section 29.052, or a student who |
|
|
receives special education services under Subchapter A, Chapter 29, |
|
|
be written in the parent's or guardian's native language. |
|
|
SECTION 2. This Act applies beginning with the 2011-2012 |
|
|
school year. |
|
|
SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|
|
a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|
|
provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|
|
Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|
|
Act takes effect September 1, 2011. |
