A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
|
relating to a study by the Texas Department of Transportation on |
|
|
public transportation services for people with disabilities. |
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. Section 461.004, Transportation Code, is amended |
|
|
by adding Subsections (c) and (d) to read as follows: |
|
|
(c) Not later than December 31, 2012, the department shall |
|
|
conduct a study of public transportation services in this state |
|
|
designed for people with disabilities. The study must include: |
|
|
(1) identification of the different public |
|
|
transportation services in this state designed for people with |
|
|
disabilities; |
|
|
(2) evaluation of the efficiencies and inefficiencies |
|
|
of public transportation services in this state designed for people |
|
|
with disabilities, including any inefficiencies attributable to a |
|
|
lack of uniformity in eligibility standards among public |
|
|
transportation providers; and |
|
|
(3) conclusions regarding strategies to eliminate |
|
|
inefficiencies of public transportation services in this state |
|
|
designed for people with disabilities. |
|
|
(d) Not later than January 31, 2013, the department shall |
|
|
report and make recommendations on the findings of the study to the |
|
|
governor, the lieutenant governor, the speaker of the house of |
|
|
representatives, and the appropriate committees of the |
|
|
legislature. This subsection and Subsection (c) expire March 1, |
|
|
2013. |
|
|
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|
|
a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|
|
provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|
|
Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|
|
Act takes effect September 1, 2011. |
