A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
relating to the term of probationary contracts for certain public |
|
school teachers. |
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
SECTION 1. Section 21.102(b), Education Code, is amended to |
|
read as follows: |
|
(b) A probationary contract may not be for a term exceeding |
|
one school year. The probationary contract may be renewed for two |
|
additional one-year periods, for a maximum permissible |
|
probationary contract period of three school years, except that the |
|
probationary period may not exceed two years [one year] for a person |
|
who has been employed as a teacher in public education for at least |
|
five of the eight years preceding employment by the district. |
|
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|
a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|
provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|
Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|
Act takes effect September 1, 2011. |
