A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
|
relating to authorization for the appraisal of certain public |
|
|
school administrators by educators supervised by the |
|
|
administrators. |
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. Subchapter H, Chapter 21, Education Code, is |
|
|
amended by adding Section 21.3541 to read as follows: |
|
|
Sec. 21.3541. APPRAISAL OF ASSISTANT PRINCIPALS AND |
|
|
DEPARTMENT HEADS. (a) In addition to the appraisal required under |
|
|
this subchapter, the board of trustees of a school district may |
|
|
provide an appraisal process and criteria on which to appraise the |
|
|
performance of: |
|
|
(1) each school assistant principal by each teacher at |
|
|
the school who is the department chair for a subject area or grade |
|
|
level; and |
|
|
(2) each teacher who is the department chair for a |
|
|
subject area or grade level, on the basis of the teacher's |
|
|
performance as department chair, by the other teachers in the |
|
|
subject area or at the grade level for which the department chair |
|
|
has supervisory responsibilities. |
|
|
(b) An assistant principal or department chair may not be |
|
|
appraised under the appraisal process adopted under this section |
|
|
more than once each school year. |
|
|
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|
|
a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|
|
provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|
|
Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|
|
Act takes effect September 1, 2011. |
