A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
|
relating to the residence address at which a person is registered to |
|
|
vote. |
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. Subchapter A, Chapter 13, Election Code, is |
|
|
amended by adding Section 13.0022 to read as follows: |
|
|
Sec. 13.0022. ELIGIBLE RESIDENCE ADDRESSES. (a) A person |
|
|
is not eligible to register to vote at a residence address if: |
|
|
(1) bathing and sleeping facilities are not available |
|
|
at the residence address; or |
|
|
(2) the person claims a different residence address as |
|
|
the person's homestead in this state or on the person's Texas |
|
|
driver's license or personal identification card. |
|
|
(b) The secretary of state shall adopt rules as necessary to |
|
|
implement this section. |
|
|
SECTION 2. The change in law made by this Act applies only |
|
|
to a voter registration application that is submitted or a voter |
|
|
renewal certificate that is issued on or after the effective date of |
|
|
this Act. |
|
|
SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2011. |
