A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
|
relating to providing proof of identity to obtain a one-trip or |
|
|
30-day trip permit for the transit of certain unregistered |
|
|
vehicles. |
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. Section 502.354, Transportation Code, is amended |
|
|
by amending Subsection (e) and adding Subsection (j) to read as |
|
|
follows: |
|
|
(e) A person may obtain a permit under this section by: |
|
|
(1) applying on a form provided by the department to: |
|
|
(A) the county assessor-collector of the county |
|
|
in which the vehicle will first be operated on a public highway; or |
|
|
(B) the department in Austin or at one of the |
|
|
department's vehicle title and registration regional offices; |
|
|
(2) paying a fee, in cash or by postal money order or |
|
|
certified check, of: |
|
|
(A) $5 for a one-trip permit; or |
|
|
(B) $25 for each 30-day period; [and] |
|
|
(3) furnishing evidence of financial responsibility |
|
|
for the vehicle in a form listed under Section 502.153(c); and |
|
|
(4) providing proof of the person's identity using a |
|
|
state-issued driver's license or personal identification |
|
|
certificate. |
|
|
(j) The department or a county assessor-collector, as |
|
|
appropriate, shall keep a record of an applicant's proof of |
|
|
identity provided under Subsection (e)(4) in the database the |
|
|
department or county assessor-collector uses to record information |
|
|
about permits issued under this section. |
|
|
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2011. |
