A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
|
relating to emergency services for licensed abortion facilities. |
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. Chapter 245, Health and Safety Code, is amended |
|
|
by adding Section 245.0101 to read as follows: |
|
|
Sec. 245.0101. EMERGENCY SERVICES. (a) A facility |
|
|
licensed under this chapter shall develop and have a readily |
|
|
accessible written protocol for: |
|
|
(1) managing medical emergencies; and |
|
|
(2) transferring patients requiring further emergency |
|
|
care to a hospital. |
|
|
(b) The facility shall ensure that: |
|
|
(1) each physician practicing at the facility has |
|
|
admitting privileges at a hospital located no further than 30 miles |
|
|
from the facility; and |
|
|
(2) each person providing direct patient care is |
|
|
certified in basic life support if required in the person's job |
|
|
description or job responsibilities. |
|
|
(c) The facility shall maintain the necessary equipment and |
|
|
personnel for cardiopulmonary resuscitation. |
|
|
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect January 1, 2012. |
