AN ACT
relating to license renewals by the Texas Department of Licensing |
and Regulation. |
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
SECTION 1. Sections 51.401(c) and (d), Occupations Code, |
are amended to read as follows: |
(c) A person whose license has been expired for more than 90 |
days but less than 18 months [one year] may renew the license by |
paying to the department a renewal fee that is equal to two times |
the normally required renewal fee. On approval by the executive |
director, a person whose license has been expired for at least 18 |
months but less than three years may renew the license by paying to |
the department a renewal fee equal to two times the normally |
required renewal fee. |
(d) Except as provided by Subsection (c), a [A] person whose |
license has been expired for 18 months [one year] or more may not |
renew the license. The person may obtain a new license by complying |
with the requirements and procedures, including the examination |
requirements, for obtaining an original license. |
SECTION 2. The changes in law made by this Act apply only to |
an application for the renewal of a license that is filed with the |

effective date of this Act. An application for the renewal of a |
license that is filed before the effective date of this Act is |
governed by the law in effect on the date the application was filed, |
and the former law is continued in effect for that purpose. |
SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2011. |
