A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
relating to an election to authorize an increase in a school |
|
district superintendent's salary. |
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
SECTION 1. Subchapter I, Chapter 21, Education Code, is |
|
amended by adding Section 21.416 to read as follows: |
|
Sec. 21.416. VOTER APPROVAL REQUIRED FOR SUPERINTENDENT |
|
SALARY INCREASE. (a) The board of trustees of a school district |
|
may not increase the salary of the district superintendent unless a |
|
majority of the voters in the district voting in an election approve |
|
the increase. |
|
(b) The board of trustees of a school district that proposes |
|
a salary increase for the district superintendent shall order that |
|
an appropriate proposition be placed on the ballot at the first |
|
regular election of trustees held after the date the board proposes |
|
the increase. The proposition must specify the amount of the |
|
proposed salary and the proposed percentage increase. |
|
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|
a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|
provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|
Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|
Act takes effect September 1, 2011. |
