A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
|
relating to a political party's use of corporate or labor union |
|
|
contributions. |
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. Section 257.004(a), Election Code, is amended to |
|
|
read as follows: |
|
|
(a) Beginning on the 60th day before the date of the general |
|
|
election for state and county officers and continuing through the |
|
|
day of the election, a political party may not knowingly accept a |
|
|
contribution authorized by Section 253.104 [or make an expenditure
|
|
|
from the account required by Section 257.002]. |
|
|
SECTION 2. (a) The change in law made by this Act applies |
|
|
only to an offense committed on or after September 1, 2011. For |
|
|
purposes of this section, an offense is committed before September |
|
|
1, 2011, if any element of the offense occurs before that date. |
|
|
(b) An offense committed before September 1, 2011, is |
|
|
covered by the law in effect when the offense was committed, and the |
|
|
former law is continued in effect for that purpose. |
|
|
SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2011. |
