A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
|
relating to the applicability of cumulative voting for the board of |
|
|
trustees of certain independent school districts. |
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. Section 11.065, Education Code, is amended by |
|
|
adding Subsection (e) to read as follows: |
|
|
(e) Section 11.054 does not apply to the board of trustees |
|
|
of the smallest school district located in a county located on the |
|
|
Texas-Mexico border that has a population greater than 700,000 and |
|
|
whose largest municipality has a population of less than 150,000. |
|
|
SECTION 2. The change in law made by this Act applies only |
|
|
to the election of a member of a board of trustees of an independent |
|
|
school district who is elected on or after the effective date of |
|
|
this Act. |
|
|
SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|
|
a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|
|
provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|
|
Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|
|
Act takes effect September 1, 2011. |
