A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
|
relating to the termination of a volunteer deputy registrar for the |
|
|
submission of late or incomplete applications for voter |
|
|
registration. |
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. Sections 13.036(a) and (e), Election Code, are |
|
|
amended to read as follows: |
|
|
(a) An appointment as a volunteer deputy registrar is |
|
|
terminated on: |
|
|
(1) the expiration of the volunteer deputy's term of |
|
|
appointment; [or] |
|
|
(2) the final conviction of the volunteer deputy for |
|
|
an offense prescribed by Section 13.043; or |
|
|
(3) the receipt by the registrar of a total of 11 or |
|
|
more applications from the volunteer deputy that are: |
|
|
(A) delivered to the registrar after 5 p.m. of |
|
|
the 29th day before the date of an election; or |
|
|
(B) not complete as required by Section |
|
|
13.039(b). |
|
|
(e) The registrar may not reappoint a person whose |
|
|
appointment as a volunteer deputy registrar is terminated under |
|
|
Subsection (a)(2) or (3). |
|
|
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2011. |
