A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
|
relating to truancy and the jurisdiction of justice courts |
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. Subchapter A, Chapter 45, Code of Criminal |
|
|
Procedures, is amended by striking: |
|
|
Art. 45.054. FAILURE TO ATTEND SCHOOL PROCEEDINGS. (A) |
|
|
Attend school without unexcused absences.
|
|
|
SECTION 2. Section 25.094, Chapter 25, Education Code, is |
|
|
amended by adding: |
|
|
(a)(2) fails to attend school on 12 10 or more days or parts
|
|
|
of days within a six-month period in the same school year or on |
|
|
three or more days or parts of days within a four-week period. |
|
|
SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|
|
a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|
|
provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|
|
Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|
|
Act takes effect September 1, 2011. |
