A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
|
relating to broadcasting of athletic competitions sponsored or |
|
|
sanctioned by the University Interscholastic League. |
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. Subchapter D, Chapter 33, Education Code, is |
|
|
amended by adding Section 33.0833 to read as follows: |
|
|
Sec. 33.0833. BROADCASTING OF ATHLETIC COMPETITIONS. (a) |
|
|
In this section, "broadcasting" means transmitting sounds and |
|
|
images through television or over the Internet. |
|
|
(b) The University Interscholastic League shall adopt rules |
|
|
and policies that encourage and permit the broadcasting of each |
|
|
athletic competition sponsored or sanctioned by the league that |
|
|
occurs more than 100 miles away from the campus of a school |
|
|
participating in the event, regardless of the day of the week on |
|
|
which the competition occurs. |
|
|
(c) The University Interscholastic League may not adopt a |
|
|
rule or policy that prohibits the broadcasting of an athletic |
|
|
competition described by Subsection (b) solely on the basis of the |
|
|
day of the week on which the competition occurs. |
|
|
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|
|
a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|
|
provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|
|
Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|
|
Act takes effect September 1, 2011. |
