H.C.R. No. 48
 
 
 
HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
         
  WHEREAS, The Fannie Marchman Garden Club in Mineola is
 
  celebrating its 75th anniversary in 2011, and this occasion offers
 
  a fitting opportunity to recognize the group's many contributions
 
  to the community; and
         
         WHEREAS, Established in 1936 by women from Mineola and
 
  neighboring Grand Saline, the garden club has completed a host of
 
  local beautification projects through the years; early efforts
 
  included landscaping and maintaining the grounds of the city
 
  cemetery and developing a park beside the Quitman highway; and
         
         WHEREAS, Today, the club remains dedicated to the mission
 
  laid out in its constitution: the mutual improvement of its members
 
  in gardening and civic pride; the group has sponsored flower shows,
 
  participated in the local Christmas parade, and hosted fund-raisers
 
  to support a variety of worthwhile projects; and
         
         WHEREAS, Mineola City Hall, the civic center, and area
 
  schools and nursing homes have benefited from the efforts of the
 
  club; recognized for its outstanding work, the organization has
 
  earned the Environmental Improvement Award from Sears and first
 
  place honors from the National Council of State Garden Clubs for
 
  establishing Mineola as a bird sanctuary; and
         
         WHEREAS, For three quarters of a century, the Fannie Marchman
 
  Garden Club has provided members an opportunity to set aside the
 
  cares of daily life and enjoy the happiness found in creating
 
  beautiful gardens, and in turn, they have brightened the lives of
 
  their fellow citizens through their careful stewardship of the
 
  natural world; now, therefore, be it
         
         RESOLVED, That the 82nd Legislature of the State of Texas
 
  hereby congratulate the Fannie Marchman Garden Club on the
 
  milestone of its 75th anniversary and extend to all those
 
  associated with the group sincere best wishes for continued
 
  success; and, be it further
         
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 
  prepared for the club as an expression of high regard by the Texas
 
  House of Representatives and Senate.
